KCB bank Rwanda offers treatment for cataract patients.


Yesterday, 14th September 2017 KCB Bank Rwanda through its KCB foundation partnered with Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology (RIIO) to treat underprivileged patients suffering for cataract disease. The event was held at Dr. Agarwal’s Hospital where the eye surgeries were performed.

The KCB Foundation supports various aspects of the local community through the Bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives under five key areas” Education, Development, Health, Environment and Humanitarian aid.

The patients were selected from the districts of Gasabo and Nyarugenge. The most vulnerable were given preference mainly for eye surgery to cure cataract disease. A total of 20 patients received treatment to correct various optical deficiencies.

“This is an act of humanity and developing together as a community to restore sight” said Mr. Odhiambo George, Ag. MD of KCB Bank Rwanda

“We owe it to our communities to give back and restore good health and dignity where possible” said Mr. Odhiambo, Restoration of sight can go along way in enabling one to the self-reliant which builds hope and encourages personal growth” he added.

The patients were thrilled to be able to see again after years of partial or total blindness in some cases.

“Now that I am able to see, I can’t wait to visit my children and friends!” said Munyambuga, a patient who had cataract in both eyes.

KCB Bank Rwanda also offered consultancy and free eye checkup for its customers who appreciated the gesture. “It is touching to haveyour bank give you a courtesy call concerning your health especially eye care at times be costly” said one customer.

KCB staff who played a key role in making this initiative possible were recognized.
